The impact of the report has given focus and guidance to nursing to continue to progress and further quality patient care through its explicit expectations and recommendations. Nursing is encouraged to rally on to “achieve higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promotes seamless academic progression” (Dunphy, 2018). Contentment must not be found in acceptance of static knowledge but embracing fluidity, characteristic of nursing, that will foster life-long learning. Life-long learning resonates, loudly, and it sounds the trumpet for those attempting advanced nursing studies, when others may not understand the academic pursuit, to continue learning, giving a clear path that nurses have to be about education, learning and understanding how to best apply that knowledge.

Attainment of knowledge and building on nursing practices we hold the hope that we can improve the American healthcare system to be more equitable and affordable for all. As nursing practice continues to be defined via research of best practices and maneuvers through collaboration with other health care professionals, the expected and predicted outcome is improved patient care. The report also, impacts train of thought, to think of ways to reduce barriers that are inclusive of “fragmentation of the health care system, high rates of turnover among nurses, difficulties for nurses transitioning from school to practice, and an aging workforce and other demographic challenges” (Medicine, 2011). Not only are nurses working to benefit the community as well as challenged to find better ways to enhance both the nurse’s working and educational experiences.

The Future of Nursing dictates that in order for nurses to be prescient with both the future of nursing and health care, that will encompass achieving “higher levels of education and training. One step in realizing this goal is for a greater number of nurses to enter the workforce with a baccalaureate degree or progress to this degree early in their career” (Medicine, 2011). According to Dunphy, doing what needs to be done to combat “organizational and societal opposition” (Dunphy, 2018, p. 11), that plague nursing, we have to be equipped educationally.
